The short version
Storage belongs beside the station that creates or consumes an item; organize by workflow first and labels second.
Before you begin
Organize by production workflow
- Place ore storage between mining and smelting rather than in a distant central warehouse.
- Keep food inputs and cooked output beside the kitchen chain.
- Use a separate departure chest for gear that should never be consumed by base crafting.
Remove unnecessary crossings
- Watch where transporters travel after picking up one item.
- Move the destination closer before adding another worker.
- Avoid placing the most-used container behind stairs, doors or crowded stations.
Plan for spikes and overflow
- Leave spare slots in high-output containers.
- Split unrelated bulk materials before one type fills every slot.
- Review stock after major crafting sessions so empty categories do not hide a new shortage.
Video research
Creator videos, distilled into a field guide.
We reviewed the public player videos below, compared their demonstrated routes, and rewrote the useful findings in our own words. No official guide copy or video transcript is reproduced here. Results can still vary with world settings and later patches.
